In 1982 Toshiba announced the TOSWORD JW-1 desktop all-in-one Japanese word processor with a 40 character x 2 line display.
Further improvements on the TOSWORD system were developed in 1983, 1985, 1988, 1990, and 1996.
The TOSWORD JW-3550, JW-3570, and JW-3580 business word processors of 1996 provided enhanced print functions, including 12 Western typefaces in addition to 14 Japanese typefaces, and support for high-resolution 600 dpi page printers.
These desktop systems were interspersed with the release of various “Rupo” portable Japanese word processors between 1985 and 1999.
