Another typewriter with an identity crisis! This one’s an Imperial Safari made in the USA, segment shift, serial number SA7795010 – As far as I can ascertain, this is a rebadged Royal Safari circa 1967/68. Once again I’m indebted to Robert Messenger and his invaluable OzTypewriter resource: “Production of Imperials and Royals moved from Holland to Portugal in 1967 when Litton ended the run of the Imperial Messenger in England and the Royal Safari in the United States.” There’s an irksome line space lever scratch on the left side of the ribbon cover, but otherwise this typewriter is in excellent working order and has a real spring to its step. It’s very easy to type on. Probably not to everyone’s taste, but I do like this style of typewriter.
